Thirty-one BA Philosophy freshmen, shiftees, and transferees were welcomed by the UPLB Philosophy Division on August 29, 2023.

The Welcome Activities, hosted by Asst. Prof. Marlot Lat, became an avenue for the students to get acquainted and revisit their personal motivations in taking BA Philosophy as a field of study.

A significant part of the said event was the orientation of the goals and direction of the Philosophy program. The students were guided about their Plan of Study, where the following electives are currently offered: Mathematical Logic, Chinese Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Philosophy of Law. Meanwhile, elective courses such as Virtue Epistemology and Philosophy for Children will be added to the list soon. In total, the students have to take 132 units to complete the program.

Thereafter, Assoc. Prof. Nicolo Masakayan presented possible career opportunities to graduates of the program. Notable alumni include Francis Ron De Guzman, Bojer Capati, Michael David Azucena, Jerdy Paul Mercene, Jossa De Pano, Herbert Calvin Abugan, John Ian Boongaling, Franchesca Del Barrio-Alcanse, and Francis Angelo Lopez who have chosen various paths in the field of Philosophy.

Alumni Jean Alchie Capacio and Michael Noble, and upper-class students Christian Dave J. Anda, Juancho Manolo Consunji, and Jelo Clemente delivered inspirational messages to the new students.

The division's faculty members, headed by Asst. Prof. Krissah Marga Taganas was also introduced to the students during the activity.
