The Department of Humanities (DHUM) warmly welcomed new students of BA Communication Arts (BACA) and BA Philosophy (BAPHLO) on August 29, 2023 at MPH1, CAS Annex 2.

DHUM Chair Katrina Ross Tan officially opened the program with some useful tips for the students. She reminded them to save space to have fun, build relationships with the department, and be academically competent.

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Maribel Dionisio-Sese also delivered her inspiring message by saying that being an Iskolar ng Bayan is a privilege and that Para sa Bayan is a responsibility.

The background and curriculum of each degree program were presented by their program coordinators, Asst. Prof. Jonelle Nieto for BACA and Asst. Prof. Marlon Lat, respectively. On the other hand, Head of DHUM GE and Improvement of Teaching Committees Assoc. Prof. Dennis Andrew Aguinaldo tackled the importance of the GE programs as well as the required and elective courses the students need to take.

The department’s faculty members were also introduced under the following divisions: Communication Division, Language Division, Literary and Cultural Studies Division, Visual and Performing Arts Division, and Philosophy Division.

Prof. Emmanuel Dumlao, head of the Student Relations and Mental Health Committee (SRMHC), familiarized the students with proper academic conduct and the various support programs and opportunities that they may encounter inside the University. These include the UP Code, career and financial assistance, student councils, and the UPLB Pelikulab.

After the general orientation, the students were welcomed by their respective degree program faculty members through welcoming activities.
