DHUM Associate Professor and UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts Director Jerry R. Yapo, and Assistant Professor and All UP Academic Employees Union - Los Baños VP for Faculty Laurence Marvin S. Castillo recently published books, strengthening the Department’s commitment to intellectual vibrancy.

Assoc. Prof. Yapo recently launched his first book of essays  “Artfully Speaking and Other Essays” at the Gateway Gallery in Quezon City on October 1. The book is a collection of essays that reflects his experiences in the field of academia and the arts. It also features commissioned artworks by his artist friends.

Shortly following the successful initial launch with the book's signature Maroon edition, another launch was held at the UPLB Library Lobby on October 24, this time with the book's second print run by San Anselmo Press. A launch of the book's third print run is scheduled on January 28 next year at Mt. Cloud Bookshop in Baguio City. The book is available through an online shopping platform and through San Anselmo Publications, Inc.'s  Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Laurence Marvin Castillo also launched a book titled 'Martial Law @ 50: Alaala at Kasaysayan ng Pagbabalikwas' at the University Hotel, UP Diliman on October 7. Prof. Castillo co-edited said book with Francis A. Gealogo, Francisco Jayme Paolo A. Guiang, Michael D. Pante, and Reginald A. Vallejos.

According to the publisher, IBON Bookshop, this book "compiles memories and multi-disciplinary analyses of the Martial Law era to fight rampant disinformation and historical distortions -- and give insight to battling persistent social ills as the dictator's son approaches his first 100 days in office." ‘Martial Law @50: Alaala at Kasaysayan ng Pagbabalikwas’ is available through online shopping platforms and IBON Bookshop Facebook page.

Among Prof. Castillo's works are 'Digmaan ng mga Alaala: Rebolusyon at Pagkakamali sa mga Talang-Gunita' (UP Press, 2021); 'Pagbasa at Pagsuri sa Iba't Ibang Teksto tungo sa Pananaliksik' (IBON Foundation Inc, 2017), and 'Filipino sa Piling Larangan (Akademik)' (IBON Foundation Inc, 2018) both co-authored with Cris Roxas Lanzaderas; and 'Hindi Nangyari Dahil Wala sa Social Media: Interogasyon ng Kulturang New Media sa Pilipinas' (Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2021, co-edited with Rolando V. Tolentino and Vladimeir B. Gonzales).
